Hello, my name is Stephen W. Jarboe. Most of my friends call me VCR Steve. Some call me other things but VCR Steve will be fine. My purpose here today is to introduce myself. With that said, here goes.
I was born in a small town, and I live in a small town. No; wait. That was another Indiana boy. Sorry Mr. Mellencamp. Actually I was raised by working parents on an acre of land in rural southern Indiana. My grandparents lived up the road about a mile on a 180 acre farm that I was very active on while growing up. The country was really good to me. I grew up accustomed to hard work and family. My mom had eleven brothers and sisters, my dad had three sisters and I was the eldest of three brothers. School was great and I learned that I had some artistic talent. So much that I even got an art scholarship to Evansville University. Unbeknownst to all, that was not to be my future.
Raised to be independent and being bullheaded I struck out on my own when I turned eighteen. At that time I joined the navy and spent ten wonderful years with that organization. During my career in the navy, I became a class one electronics technician/instructor, husband and father. Also during this period, I took on many part time jobs to supplement my income and support my young family. I have a son, a daughter and four grandchildren. By the way I will be 52 this coming April. From 1983 to 2003 I have owned or managed a few TV repair shops. But all good things eventually come to an end. TVs’ got too cheap. For the past three years I’ve been searching for something new. That new for me is the Internet.
Now I’ll bet you are wondering, “What were those part time jobs”? Well, I’ve been a stock boy, cashier, department store service desk manager, house painter, portrait artist, pump jockey, parts distributor and mechanic. I’ve sold aerial photographs, term life insurance, whole life insurance, and fishing lures. For the techies, I’ve worked on microwave satellite communications systems, calibrated military test equipment and qualified to become a micro miniature soldering instructor. I’ve thrown hay, milked cows and am currently raising my own chickens for fresh eggs (in town) have four 30 pound plus dogs that I’m not training quite as well as the Dog Whisperer, but that just keeps me on my toes.
Well, that was about half to ¾ of the part time jobs that I’ve had. I list these not to impress but to show that anyone from small communities to big cities can learn to participate in many different types of ventures. I’ve met people from all walks of life in my travels; especially in Florida were I have resided these past 20 years. I’ve made friends that span the continent and overseas. Hopefully I will be able to add you as a friend. Thank you for your time. VCR Steve
